<![CDATA[Atropos EP Release]]>Wed, 10 Jan 2018 22:37:27 GMThttp://kontrabandkollektif.com/newsshows/atropos-ep-release
Atropos, Kontraband Kollektif's debut EP will be released into the world on January 21st. I would like to bring it into existence with a live stream of the premiere of two new pieces, a solo piece and duet with Mara Nesrallah.

Atropos consists of 5 pieces of music, Oizys, Nyx, Atropos, Athena and Aether. The music is based on my experience of the illness and death of my father.

As proud as I am of this EP, a celebration is not what this calls for: Atropos is about pain and grief, about feelings of helplessness and doubt, about anger and missing. Opposite feelings that have to exist side by side, inside us. No one can escape this conflict of emotions. No one is immune to pain. The two pieces featured during this live stream draw from these feelings.

I invite you to join myself, Mara Nesrallah and Tom Upjohn for this live stream on the Kontraband Kollektif page on this day and hour, from a place where you feel good, and help us to create a beautiful moment. To all who grieve.

I want to thank all the beautiful and supportive musicians featured on Atropos:
Emily Steinwall (tenor sax)
Be Mcc-b (bass clarinet)
Justin Orok (guitar)
Hayden Farrar (bass)
Jillana Nickel (marimba and checkers)
Alfie Vienneau (drums)
Maria-Carmela Raso (voice)
Mingjia Jessica Chen (voice and artwork)
Laura Swankey (voice)

I also thank:
Tom Upjohn (producer and mix engineer on Nyx and Athena)
Nick Bonin (recording and mix engineer)

<![CDATA[Artspin Toronto]]>Fri, 21 Jul 2017 03:57:42 GMThttp://kontrabandkollektif.com/newsshows/artspin-torontoKontraband Kollektif will be participating in this years Artspin!

"“Here is the Soil, Here is the Water” is a piece inspired by the recent floods on Toronto Island. It aims to capture waters unpredictability, our perpetual and ancestral ties to it and the belonging to the earth that we as humans share with water. The same lake that we enjoyed last summer, has taken a part of this years' summer away."

A guided improvised piece written by Lieke van der Voort, featuring herself as well as Maria-Carmela Raso and Laura Swankey. Come check it out!
